| Customer Reviews: Just what I needed April 26, 2010 L. Levy (Dallas) After a few years of daily use, the original "leather" swinging cover finally tore off. Silly me, I thought that I would simply buy a replacement. This was not to be had so I looked for more protection.
I use my Tungsten E2 as a calendar, contact list and a data-base for storing lots of information that I frequently need at my finger-tips. Note: I do NOT use this device as an MP3 player.
When I got the case, there were no instructions and I found it difficult to open. I saw the arrow on the side, but it meant nothing.
I'm a pretty persistent guy, and after using Palm products over a decade, I knew the arrow had to mean something. Well, I pushed on the arrow and the bottom slid making opening the case VERY EASY.
It took me longer to get the remnant of the original cover off than it took to attach the PDA to the case.
The case is aluminum clad plastic with designated storage area for two extra SD data storage cards. There is a plastic flip-top that coincides with the SD card in the PDA. I don't know its purpose - perhaps for wi-fi cards.
While the PDA is nesting in the case, there is no access to the earpiece socket, on/off botton or the stylus. I would have to un-nest it from the back.
I don't use the earpiece socket.
I usually turn the PDA on with one of the four direct buttons and let it turn itself off.
After years of practice, most of the time I make entries using my finger nails, so the stylus access is not an issue. In fact, making it a two-step access will probably prevent my having to buy new ones.
So, I guess they made this case with me in mind.
Hard Case In Review April 20, 2010 N. Alexander This is the second hard case I have purchased for my Tungston E2. Both times I have found them to be of good sound quality and worth the money spent. It is good looking and practical-can also hold 2 SD cards for convenience. I would recommend this product to anyone.
Close, but has fundamental flaws February 6, 2010 Brent Eldred (Northridge, CA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have virtually the same case for a Tungsten E2 and a Tungsten TX. On the positive side, they seem to do a good job of protecting the Palm by completely enclosing it. The double hinge design allows one to fold the front cover all the way to the back of the device to get it out of the way. And the completely smooth outside makes it slip easily into a pocket (though it would also slip out of a shirt pocket easily).
Now for the flaws. First, you have to hinge the Palm forward to get at the stylus or to push the power button. Helpful hint--there's some freeware out there called "PowerBtn" that will remap a button of your choice into a power button. Next, the case really, really interferes with any cables (power, sync, earphones) attached to the Palm; you almost have to remove the Palm from the case if anything is plugged in. Third, it's a bit bigger than it really needs to be. The resulting size of the Tungsten E2 case is OK, but that for the Tungsten TX is too big. But the real Achilles heel is that the case is held closed by a very thin tab of plastic that has broken on both of my cases, one of which is only a couple months old. When this breaks, the case doesn't stay closed, and due to the double hinge design this results in the front cover hitting the palm itself which could scratch it. Just looking at the design makes one wonder why Palm ever thought it wouldn't break.
I could live with the other problems but the inadequate snap renders this product unacceptable.
Pleased January 21, 2010 Cecil C. Alton Great value and it works fine. Just took a second to figure out how to open it. :-)
couln't live without it January 10, 2010 I. Jones (U.S.) I love this cover. It has saved my palm pilot many times, as I have dropped it several times which resulted only in small dings in the "shell"
